Learning to ride a bike is an early childhood rite of passage, a huge milestone. I remember teaching my kids to ride across the basketball courts at the nearby playground when they were in kindergarten. (Add that to the list of things that are much more tricky to do with twins than a singleton!)

This picture book is deceptively simple. On the surface it is a fun read aloud about different animals and creatures coming across a bike. However, it also discusses opposite words and is a fun springboard for a conversation about perspective. For example, a bike that’s way too big for a bird is still way too small for an elephant. Along the way energetic illustrations, exciting onomatopoeia, and a relatable concept for anyone who has hopped on a bike. A playful book that’s fun to read aloud.
Wild Blue

Kayla loves riding her bike, but Daddy says it’s time for a new, two wheeled bike. I love the imagination of the little girl who compares her new bike to a wild horse. (Early elementary teachers could have some fun with this book to explain metaphor). This is a darling book about trying new things and trying again when you fail. A great read aloud.
Together We Ride

Full of bright illustrations and rhyming text this is a fantastic one for reading aloud. Great book about learning to ride a bike.
