Children’s books are published by the hundreds of thousands every year. The shear volume of authors, let alone books can be overwhelming. So then the question is; how do you find the authors that are right for you?
For me, although I love finding new authors and new great books, I often find myself returning to the same amazingly consistent authors. Favorite authors are a bit like friends. They write those books that you will read again and again. They are the books the make you laugh the loudest or hug you close when you’re sad. And then, when you have favorites, there will come the day when that author has a new book and you will squeal with delight that there is more!
Below is an updated list of fantastic children’s book authors. (This is not to discount previously recommended authors – and some are included again here, but I wanted to make sure to share some newer children’s book authors I have fallen in love with more recently) These are actively publishing children’s book authors that I get excited every time I find out that they have a new release. Over the course of 2026 and 2027 I will be sharing more about each here and on Instagram.
My hope is that this year you will discover a new author or two that you and your kids will adore.
