Dragons are fascinating creatures. Depending on the story they are impressive or silly or inspiring or maybe a little scary. No matter what they are never boring creatures and therefore kids seem to love dragons.
This story time was inspired by three children’s books about dragons that my kids want to hear again and again and again. I hope the kids in your life love them just as much.

How to Light Your Dragon

So imagine you have a pet dragon (awesome right?) but it’s fire has burnt out (because that happens?) – what would you do? Pick up this book of course. From the ridiculous premise to the creative, childlike attempts to “light” the dragon, to the sweet ending this is just plain fun.
Not Your Typical Dragon
by Dan Bar-el
illustrated by Tim Bowers
This hilarious story is about a dragon who doesn’t breath fire – he breathes everything but – who meets a knight who is afraid of dragons. There is plenty of silliness on these pages but the message underneath is so sweet.
Dragons Love Tacos
by Adam Rubin
illustrated by Daniel Salmieri
Put a taco party and dragons together and chaos ensues – of the hilarious variety. These is a book made to be read aloud. There is also a sequel if your kids love this one as much as mine.

- Happy Dragon song (watch on YouTube – I don’t love this version, sorry!) I like how this song talks about different emotions, kind of like “If You’re Happy and You Know It”
