Creative & Bookish Easter Basket Ideas for Kids

Creative and Bookish Easter Basket Ideas for All Ages - My Storytime Corner

Easter baskets were on my to do list last week. I needed to (ahem, help the Easter bunny) gather supplies. If you’re in this boat, I have some fun ideas. I love to include ideas that are bookish, but also some that encourage creativity or outdoor play. Here is what is going in our baskets this year.

First, the basket.

I have had our Easter baskets since my kids were toddlers, so I bought them a decade ago. I do like a solid, more basket-y basket personally so this one looks like one I would pick if I were buying them today. Then I fill the bottom with some grass – I use this paper grass that can be recycled as a filler.

Now books.

Books are a must in Easter Baskets for my kids. Here are some fun book ideas for any age.

for babies and toddlers

I Am Not the Easter Bunny

Hilarious and adorable. Love how the Bunny talks directly to the reader.

Science Comics: Frogs
by Liz Prince

My kids adore this whole series so if your kids haven’t read these yet but like graphic novels and science then check out their whole series and find one that best fits their interests. This is one of the newest in the series (released Oct 2023) and spring themed.

Sunny Makes Her Case
by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm

My daughter has read and re-read all of the books in the Sunny series and this is the latest. Start with SUNNY SIDE UP if this is a new series for your kids, but they can also be read in any order without much of an issue. Middle school, debate club and in general, how to argue fairly as front and center in this book.

for the teens

Dungeons and Drama
by Kristy Boyce

If my daughter was just a little older this would be going in her basket. The main character loves Broadway and performing and finds herself playing dungeons and dragons. This all sound like relatable experiences in so many ways.

Snow Globe
by Soyoung Park

This has been popping up everywhere since it was released in February 2024. I saw it called Hunger Games meets Squid Games. Suspenseful and dystopian – if that kind of book appeals to your teen then I’d grab this one for their baskets.

Gifts to Inspire Creativity or Outdoor Play

Bubbles!
These have been in almost every Easter basket my kids have ever received. They’re fun for all ages (although require more work, patience, and lung capacity for grown ups when gifted to younger kids). Some other fun, similar ideas are outside chalk or kites for the elementary schoolers and up.

Lego Flower Kit
Any small lego kit is sure to be an Easter basket kit, but I love the idea of including these spring time flowers. There are a bunch of options but these ones were my pick for my daughter. Recommended for kids 8+

Otamatone Japanese Electronic Musical Instrument Portable Music Synthesizer from Japan by Maywa Denki Studio Award Winning Educational Fun Gift for Children, Teens & Adults - Unicorn

Otamatone
These are Japanese instruments that are super easy to use and all the rave right now. Two tips – make sure to keep them on the quieter setting and have AAA batteries on hand because they aren’t included. Otherwise, my kids found these super entertaining. Anyone over 3 could use this, but I’d recommend 8+ for best experience.

Puzzle
Or an idea for the whole family, is to gift a puzzle you can work on together like this gorgeous one from Apostrophe.

Lastly, eggs and candy.
