With growing information, fascinating animals, and visible affects from climate change it is understandably a place we want to know more about. There are a lot of fantastic books for kids about Antarctica, but the ones included here are my favorites for reading aloud. Other further book recommendations that are excellent, but less fun or engaging for reading aloud, are included at the bottom of this post.
Except Antarctica

EXCEPT ANTARCTICA! is a laugh out loud funny book. The narrator is stating facts about animals, but the animals on the page have other ideas. What ensues is ridiculous and hilarious. This is cheeky, informative, and fantastic fun to read aloud. At the end the backmatter also includes information about the animals in the book, Antarctica, climate change and ways that the readers can help save our planet. Delightful and still informative – my kids love this one.

Harriet Gets Carried Away
by Jessie Sima
This book is about so much more than penguins, but in the middle there is a grand penguin adventure. A must-read story about imagination. A little girl who loves costumes lets her imagination run wild and has the most extraordinary adventure. Cleverly written, great page turns, and a fun one to read aloud.
Ten Animals in Antarctica: A Counting Book
by Moira Court
This is a beautifully illustrated, rhyming picture book about animals in Antarctica. The rhyming text and structure of the counting book are perfect for reading aloud.
