Activity: Farm Animal Picture to Object Match

Materials: Those same farm animals from the song above and photos or pictures of each printed out. Download FREE printable.

Once again each child should have a farm animal. It is up to you if you want them to keep them during the second book or if you would rather pass them out again when the book is done.

This time, you will be working on matching an object to a picture. Understanding that a picture can represent an object in real life is an important pre-literacy skill for children. To do this, one by one each child will have a turn to match their object, the farm animal in their hand, to a picture of the same animal. One way to do this is to put velcro on the back of each animal picture and attach the image to a felt board.

Another way to play animal object – photo match is to reverse the matching process. To do this, hand each child a laminated card with an animal picture on it. Put the farm puppets or toys in a basket. On each child’s turn, have them come up and find their matching animal in the basket.

Book 3: Let’s Go Visiting by Sue Williams
