Ways for Kids to Create with Tape

Masking Tape

You can find masking tape anywhere. You probably have some in a drawer. Did you know that you can also get colored art tape? Here are some ways to create with Masking Tape:

1. Scissors + Tape

My twins had trouble tearing tape when we first started using it. This type of activity offered an excellent, motivating opportunity to practice using scissors. Simply lay out scissors and masking tape and white paper.

2. String + Tape Collage

Place some pieces of yarn and string in a basket next to some tape. We did this with a large piece of paper for a collaborative artwork experience.

Gummed Paper Art Tape

This one is less common, but I used this all the time as a kid. Meet: Gummed Paper Art Tape. It is completely unique tape. One side is paper (You can write on it and everything) and the other is sticky when you wet it. The options are pretty limitless with this stuff. It is a little pricey, but you get a ton of colors and huge rolls for the money. We got some around Christmas time and have barely made a dent despite using it several times a week.

1. Paper Tape Collage

This one would work with any kind of tape but we love doing it with paper tape. We had a lot of fun making a rainbow collage with Gummed Art Tape during our Week of Preschool Color.

2. Link Countdown

Gummed Paper Tape works well for making an easy link countdown to a big event. Simply lay out strips of tape and have your littles create loops. I like to do this with a counting book. For instance, at Christmas time we create a countdown chain and I lay it out with some 12 Days of Christmas books.

Duct Tape
