Trees transforming from green leaves to an explosion of color to bare branches and back again is one of the most concrete symbols of the change of the seasons. Celebrate the seasons and do a basic nature exploration with this series of story times.
The first one in the series is the Fall Storytime.
Now we are moving into Winter.
Below are story time read aloud and song recommendations for a Winter Tree Storytime. I also have some additional ideas linked at the end.

Winter Tree Read Aloud Picture Books

Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter by Kenard Pak
These books both beautifully capture the change in seasons. The words read like a conversation between children and nature as the season gradually shifts around them. What I love most about both books however are the illustrations that perfectly capture that chilled feeling in the air as winter grows closer in the first book and fill with color and glow in the second. These are perfect for reading in late in a season before the next one emerges. I hope Goodbye Spring, Hello Summer is on it’s way! Find Autumn/Winter

Winter Trees by Carole Gerber
Follow a boy and his dog as they use their senses of sight and touch to identify seven common trees in the middle of winter. Pretty and lyrical.

Owl Moon by Jane Yolen
This Caldecott Medal winner is about a father and his child that go owling. Told with the most incredible poetry and stunning illustrations, this is an adventure about growing up, being patient, and spending time with the ones we love. 3+

Winter Tree Storytime Extensions
Want more? If you have time, head outside for a Winter tree exploration. I love doing this four times a year with the same tree to help kids visualize the change of the seasons in concrete, observable way.
