Big Changes to A Read A Day!

Read Every Day Challenge

Hello Lovely Readers!

As we wrap up the June #aReadaDay Challenge I have a few updates, changes, tweaks I want to share with you.

I am all about changing things when I think they could be better and that’s exactly how I’m feeling about a Read a Day. When I started this challenge in January I just decided, as I usually do, to just jump in and see how it went.

I’m having fun, are you?

I also think there are some ways that it can be better.

So, for the next couple of months we are going to try 2 things.

  1. Monthly Themes
  2. Surprise Prizes

I know. I might be nuts, but I think it will be better.

Details are below and don’t worry – I didn’t forget about the rest of June, more on that coming too!

Gift Ideas for Kids Who Love Books

Monthly Themes

Starting in July we will have monthly themes instead of weekly ones.

I don’t know about you, but for me a week feels too short.

Too short to share all the great books I love for a theme.

Too short to track down the great ones you guys suggest before we move on.

Too short to wait for anything to arrive from the library or Amazon.

Too short to really enjoy and dig into a theme.

So, we’re going to try monthly themes. Psst – the theme for July is Oceans if you want to start ordering, requesting and planning.

Surprise Prizes

This is the change I’m a little less certain about so please give me your feedback, but at least for July and August we’re going to have some surprise prizes instead of monthly ones.

Our giveaway sponsors have been (are! Thanks KidArtLit ladies) AWESOME and there will be more awesome-ness but I think in the area of prizes a month feels too long.

The irony of these two paragraphs being next to each other is not lost on me.

The other side of this is that I feel like although prizes are super fun, it distracts from the real purpose of this which is to read every day to your child and share great books with other like-minded parents and grandparents and care givers.

That’s the whole point right?

Just completing the challenge at the end of the month is a happy dance worthy prize? Yes?

Just discovering new amazing books from the others reading and sharing is why I tag my books and love checking out the tag to see what you’re reading. Yes?

So we will still have prizes! Promise. I already have 2 planned for July, but they will be quicker – like a couple days to enter – rather than the whole month.

Make sense?

But what about June?

We’re not done yet!

  • The June #aReadaDayJUNE tag is still live on Instagram.
  • The amazing ladies at KidArtLit are still sending a box to one of you lucky readers – SO KEEP TAGGING!!!
  • Read and share your favorite Food themed books for this week’s theme!
  • And here is a whole list of STEM themed books for our theme that starts on June 26.

I’m going to finish up working on things for July – but make sure to peek in on Instagram for my favorites in the next couple of weeks.

One last thing…

I absolutely want to hear your thoughts. I want this challenge to work for you. To excite you about reading aloud and sharing great books.

As much as I believe in trying something a little different and making improvements, I also believe in going back if what I try doesn’t work and changing things further.

I want your feedback! I need your feedback!

So as we go through July or even now as you’re digesting all this info (thanks for reading all this by the way) – I want to hear what you’re thinking and how you’re feeling.

Please comment below, send me a message on Instagram, or email me at Erin@MyStorytimeCorner.com and I promise to listen and get back to you.

In the meantime, Happy Reading.
